The Planning and Statistics Authority has released the 61th issue of (Qatar; Monthly Statistics) bulletin; a series of statistical newsletters released on a monthly basis. In this issue, we highlighted the most important statistical changes that occurred in the country during January 2019 in addition to extracts from the results of the 2015 Census.
The most prominent change in this issue is the rise in total number of marriage contracts at a monthly rate of 8.5%, which is offset by a drop in total number of divorce certificates by a monthly rate of 7.6 % (compared to December 2018). In addition, the total number of vessels arriving at Qatar Ports increased by an annual rate of 53.2 %, resulting in an increase in the total net tonnage of ships at an annual rate of 159.1% (compared to January 2018).
The demographic statistics showed that the total population of Qatar has increased from 2.64 million during January 2018 to 2.77 million at end of January 2019, an annual increase of 4.6%.
Regarding to Vital Statistics, 2195 live births has been registered during January 2019, a 0.8% increase compared to December 2018. An increase in the total Qatari live births by 0.2% compared to last month. On the other hand, 165 deaths were recorded during the same period, a decrease of 16.7% compared to December 2018.
Moreover, January 2019 has experienced an increase in marriage contracts. The total number of marriage contracts was 308 contracts, whereas the total No. of divorces has reached 97 divorce cases; namely, one divorce for every 3 marriages.
Social Security statements, reached 85.266 thousand Qatari Riyals in January 2019, for 15323 beneficiaries.
Total electricity consumption during January 2019 was 2034.3 GWh attaining a monthly decrease of 18.5% and an annual drop of 12.2%. While the total water consumption has reached 33934.4 Thousand m3 during the same month attaining a monthly decrease of 2.4% and an annual drop of 11.6%.
The data of buildings permits issued, the total number of permits has reached 790 permits during January 2019, recording a monthly increase of 16.7%.
Traffic accidents cases, a total of 591 traffic cases were recorded during January 2019, showing a monthly increase of 13.2%. Light injuries are accounted for the vast majority of traffic accidents during the same month, with 89%, followed by severe injuries by 9%. However, 12 deaths were recorded, equivalent to only 2% of total traffic accidents.
The total number of registered new vehicles during January 2019 has reached 5598 new vehicles. The figure showed a monthly increase of 6.4% and an annual decrease of 10.0%.
For Banking Sector; Total Broad Money Supply (M2) recorded about 562.3 Billion Qatari Riyals during January 2019, an annual decrease of 6.1% compared with January 2018. On the other hand, cash equivalents; including Commercial Bank Deposits, attained for 789.7 Billion Qatari Riyals during January 2019. The figure has recorded an annual decrease of 1.7% compared to January 2018, when deposits recorded approximately 803.2 Billion Qatari Riyals.
